Data show July wasn’t all that wet compared to average

Getting caught in a summer downpour in Gunnison is not an unusual event. Nor is having to cancel a hike or a day at the lake because of rain. But when people get rained on (or out) more than once, it’s easy to call it a trend and conclude the summer is unusually wet. These days, that’s the word on the street — that summer precipitation in the valley this year has been much higher than normal. And like many conclusions about the weather that originate as gut feelings, this one turns out to be not quite right.
