It was her favorite event of the year and one she always anticipated with excitement — a Kentucky Derby party thrown by a friend.Mary Smith — a name used for the purpose of this article — had attended the event for the previous six years. Although the race was short, she said, it was great to spend time with friends.

Anyone living in the Gunnison Valley can tell you that “community” can mean many things. It’s about the relationships we create with those around us. It’s about spending quality time in a place we feel safe, and creating a lifestyle we enjoy. Perhaps most of all, community is about having conversations with our neighbors, friends and family.

GHS Track and Field — Winning state is no easy task. It requires a collaboration of will power and blind luck on the same day, at the same moment. The strongest and most deserving athletes don’t always win, but life is not always fair.

Back on the ice

Annual U19 and Midget alumni games took place this past Friday night at Jorgensen ice rink. In the U19 game, the current girls hockey team beat the alums 4-1.

Don Price passed away Tuesday, April 7 in Colorado Springs following a battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 30, 1950, in Denver. Don ran the Gunnison Creamery for 18 years.
